Hops an Herb for Teas, Beer, Jelly, Sauces and More!

HOPS

HOPS (Humulus lupulus) is what led to the blending of my Quilter's Comfort's Chamomile HipHop tea, a wonderful blend of chamomile, calendula, rose hips and hops. Stressed out?  Sip some Chamomile HipHop!

Hops is a wonderful bitter tonic, it's antiseptic, a nervine, sedative and anti-microbial with many other nutritive properties, including rutin and quercetin.  It also contains GLA, the wonder drug" that is also found in Evening Primrose Oil.

Hops has long been valued for their preservative qualities and replaced gruit in the 15th century (gruit is a specific blend of herbs once used in the brewing of beer; one herb was yarrow). Hops is not useful in depression. In Energy Medicine it is used to soothe, and support healing rest of body and mind and to open the sixth Chakra.

I/Quilter's Comfort have a few hop blends, Ginger HipHop, Hops Rose, Lavender Tranquility, and Honeybush HipHop.

Hops alone, or in one of Quilter’s Comfort’s blends have shown themselves as delicious syrups, jelly, vinegar and shrubs.   If you have followed for a while, you know that I love to insert my jellies into scones and eclairs.

A few days ago, I made Mango Tart Fruit Flight jam with Bell’s seasonal Passion Fruit Flight. This beer, herbal fruit combination turned out really, really, delicious! I will post the recipe asap, alas, it is a seasonal brew and won't be back until spring of 2020.
