Why would your Mom, Kid, Auntie, Sister or Friend want Quilter’s Comfort’s Seasonings in their stocking or included as an add-in gift?

Why would L.A.O. seasonings be at the top of the prepared seasoning list?  First of all, everyone in the family can appreciate the fresh tastes and flavors imparted by these small batch blended certified organic teas or seasonings. But most important for some is that Quilter’s Comfort blends all seasonings without nightshades, an allergen know to cause, for some inflammation.

Some persons with arthritis have been medically advised to exclude nightshades which are found in tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and white potatoes (tobacco is a nightshade).

Some advised to avoid not just the obvious nightshades, but prepared foods that are processed with these foods.  Persons following these suggestions have reported very positive results including reduction and sometimes remission of arthritic swelling and pains.  Some have even felt relief from bursitis, gout, tennis elbow, lower-back paint, headaches, high bloom pressure and similar conditions.

No white potatoes!  No Tomatoes!  Egg Plant or Peppers!  What a kick off the path!  I would, I thought, I could, find a way around this.  I loved these foods!  They were an accent or main ingredient to daily dishes, not to mention, that I had spent decades cultivating heirloom varieties of both peppers and tomatoes!

Well, I went kicking and screaming, but You don’t have to.  And you can ease away from these foods.  Give your self this easy test to see if and how nightshades influence your body.  Consciously reduce the quantity you eat, even eliminate entire servings.  Read labels on prepackaged items, even shredded cheeses.  Use only corn starch.  Do this for a week.  If you want to, keep a journal; plan on eating a particular meal with nightshades making notes of how you feel.  Then a few days later prepare the exact meal only leaving out the nightshades.  Again, notice your body and write about all your observations, if any.   

I no longer use nightshades nor knowingly consume products that include them in their composition.

I found that most commercial seasoning blends contained nightshades or other artificial substances my body did not like.  I, being a food explorer and lover, and someone who enjoys experiencing a variety of flavors and food traditions had to do something. 

So Quilter’s Comfort developed a line of delicious, small batch blended seasonings reflecting a global palate to of flavor and free of nightshades.  You can enjoy all L.A.O. blends including Curry and Garam Masala and recently made available, Coumeric Pepper.

Quilter’s Comfort teas and seasonings, as well as Patricia's art will be on sale during first Friday arts opening in the Flowing Colors Studio in celebration of the studio's first anniversary!

 Newest small batchs include, the Maple Honey Mustard Sauce Syrup (above), Elderberry Syrups and an Elderberry jelly.  As you know, small batchs move quickly, so stop by October 6th and save on these delicious certified organic products.  Quilter's Comfort products and the arts in the Flowing Colors Studio, make great gifts and some originals are available.

Light refreshments of savory scones made with Quilter's Comfort seasonings and one of our Cold Thyme seasonal support blends  will be served.

The studio is located at 112 North Walnut Street, on the second floor, up the stairs from Caveat Emptor Book Sellers Suite 600 (beside Opie Taylor’s Restaurant) and will be open until 8pm on October 6th and every first Friday.  Regular hours are Thursday and Friday 2pm – 6pm; Saturdays are 1pm – 5pm and other times by appointment.  I am there most Thursdays 1pm - 6pm if you would like to discuss my teas.

Grandma's Traditions, Yuko's Strawberry Movie, Mustard and More

Once again, my attention is here.

I am cleaning up a portion of my herbal act as it is necessary to maintaining an ease and flow in integrating the past with the present.  

Grandma’s Traditions, a web café where Quilter's Comfort's Grandmother's products are offering mostly hand made, small batch or OOAK products through a safe, secure online store! this shop will also have art cards and prints from HART Rock.

This Pecan Encrusted Brie has gotten quite a few nods for Quilter's Comfort's Wheat Ale Jelly at the Upland!  You can buy beer jelly from me or at Butler's Winery, on College Avenue.

Grandma's Traditions is all about herbal products, arts, prints and cards! The focus is definitely on old time products that are small batch, artisan products and many OOAK.

Onto the scene is Grandma's whole grain mustard and certified organic herbal tonics, all produced with unfiltered vinegar. The tonic vinegar tasted out over a six month period and the tasters refuse to stop their “testing”! Grandma's Traditions connecting voice to a few grandmothers and a few almost forgotten folk skills.

Flowing Colors Studio has developed into a comfortable place to work and be inspired.  It has a gentle buz.  It is a place to visit often.  #600, 112 North Walnut Street.  Stop in and see what we have in our space, we have silk and cotton scarves; botanical dye, pleated forms and shrugs a small selection of teas and seasonings, but more available on line.   Flowing Colors hours are Thursday and Friday 2:00pm to 6:00 pm; open until 8:00pm on first Fridays and Saturdays open 1:00 to 5:00 pm. I am there on Thursdays and by appointment. 

 Finally 

Intro to Braid-in Rub Technique – Made with four strips of fabric.  This example is me repurposing a worn cotton blanket that had belonged to my Grandmother.  This project is also a great way to recycle t-shirts.  Take this class and learn a folk skill that requires very little sewing and get something comfortable to sit or stand upon!

Tools and Materials Fee - $6.00.  Thursday - June 15^th and June 29^th - 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Workshop Cost - $9 (register for both - $16.00 + $2  - Materials Fee=$18.00) - small groups welcome.  Pre-registration three days before class.

Springtime Excitement! Teas on the Road to Japan and YELP GREAT GET AWAY to BLOOMINGTON, INDIANA

HAPPY SPRING UPDATE!

New life is everywhere.  Plants emerging from ground.  Some branches budding, others already leafing out.  A day ago, I saw the first flush of red bud blossom.  Soon the entire ridge will be popping with who knows how many shades of green and this contrasting pink.

A week ago I wondered when the fast paced leafing would begin.  The growth that eventually obscures my view of the road.  It is fast upon me.

Strawberry 15 herbal tea  (pictured above) along with Rose Mint and Elderberry Rose Mint Jellies traveled with my friend Yuko to Japan!  The Rose Mint jelly was a request from an admirer there.

 I plan on baking baby eclairs and filling them with beer jelly crafted from Upland beers; sourdough biscuit or maybe a jelly scone and something with the Everything Plus Dip!

Holiday Events, Jellies, Jellies and Chef Collaboration

 

May this note find all well and your hearts full of joy, and that Quilter’s Comfort will be some part of your celebrations and your day to day life.

For many of us, this may be a very hectic time.  If you are on the mailing list, you know that Quilter’s Comfort participated in Holiday House and thank all who came out to support the event and my herbal business in particular.

The Quilter’s Comfort website has been updated, well mostly.  There is still work to be done and pages to link, so please bare with me as I juggle the work.  Bloomington folks please note purchase arrangements available to avoid shipping cost!

Now, I am preparing for this year’s Krista Detour Holiday Show, Market and CD Release.  Each year Krista hosts a benefit for a local non-profit.  This year it is for VIPS, Visually Impaired Preschoolers and takes place Friday, December 18, 7:00 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church.  Visit her website at http://www.kristadetour.com for details.

I plan to offer herbal teas, seasonings and this year have some new packaging options and gift sets. 

I also have an assortment of jellies- local beer, local coffee, herbal and some fruit jellies - Cranberry Orange and Apple Jam.  I also have some very decadently delicious Chocolate Raspberry Stout (certified organic) jam and Rose Delight (made from certified organic coconut sugar and local honey!  As you know, all are made in small batches, so are available while supplies last, or by special order.

Over the last month, just from a chance meeting, I have been exploring UPLAND Brewery’s Wheat Ale to be used by Executive Chef Padraig Cullen.  I am very excited about this collaboration and getting the details worked out to both our liking.  I love having the staff referring to me as their beer jelly lady!  So much fun and appreciation all around!  There are a few other collaborations brewing and depending on the details will unfold in 2016.

Quilter's Comfort in BLOOM Magazine - Bloomington,Indiana

Hello All,

While booth tending during Luna Fest, a fair of women in arts and business in the Fountain Square Mall, someone came by and told me they really enjoyed reading about my teas in the just out BLOOM Magazine - http://www.magbloom.com. I hadn't yet seen the article really wanted to read what Elisabeth Andrews had to say and see what images were chosen by the photographer James Kellar.

A few hours later my neighbor (helping for the day), Mary returned from visiting other participants in their booths, holding two copies of BLOOM in her hand; one open to page 47 with the title "Teas That Please Mind, Body & Spirit"! Thank you to all responsible for sharing my developing business with Bloom readers!

I am very pleased that the article included information about my dream to open a tea house and herbal emporium to serve as a "mini-retreat".

Along with new labels, each with a unique image to help in selecting one tea from another, Quilter's Comfort introduced "No-nightshades Seasoning Blend, Clay Mask and "I LOVE Me Cream" to our growing list of vitalized creations. Now to get the website up to date with the new products and determine purchasing on line. As for the teahouse, I have a few Angel Investors, and am open to discussing with others who would also be interested in seeing this "retreat" find a home.

"All Ears" Tasted!

"All Ears", blended to support deep listening, made its debut at the monthly meeting of the Chalice Circle Executive Committee of the Bloomington Unitarian Universalist Church this Thursday. Everyone present enjoyed the deliciously fragrant, bright blend containing chamomile, calendula and rose petals to name a few of the eleven herbs. The blend is certified organic, and some herbs are Fair-trade. All of the tasters gave it a thumbs up and look forward to enjoying more of "All Ears". Once the tea is shared at the Chalice Facilitators Appreciation event, I will introduce it out into the world. At that time, I will share information about the Vibrational and historical information that supported these herbs being selected for this blend. It will also be available in a blend free of caffeine.

Orange Earl has met with a few changes and is being tasted for approval. The blend is Orange Earl Grey Green and I hope passes the appreciation taste of those who are familiar with the traditional Earl Grey. Also, I think it would be simpler to call my tea Orange Earl Green. As for the "Orange Earl" part, family lore has it that we had a cousin, a twin by the name of Orange Earl, a male with a sister named Sadie Pearl! Perhaps some day there will be a Sadie Pear Blend. If you have suggestions, send them my way. Yes, there is orange in the mixture and I look forward to sharing this one, and other new blends with you.

What's Happening at Quilter's Comfort

Hello to each of you.

May this posting find you well, and of course I hope healthy and enjoying spring where ever you are located.

I am busy working to get teas out into my community, and with your assistance into shops and eateries near you! Some new opportunities for QCT are unfolding and to that end an updated Business Plan is being worked on. I will share more on that another time.

Following is info from my most recent "What's Happening" Update on the Quilter's Comfort site. Besides this information that is mostly about teas, thanks to James Lawrence, of Stair Lift Advisor I've done some updating on the Links page. Links or location information of business mentioned are at the bottom.



In late winter Quilter's Comfort released Owl and Pussy Cat's Berry Green and Players Pub's Bluesy Green Teas. Owl and Pussy Cat's Berry Green were inspired by the children's folk tale, The Owl and Pussy Cat who went to sea and while there dined on quince with a runcible spoon. For nearly 30 years, I along with family and friends have enjoyed consuming food and beverages at the Runcible Spoon Restaurant and Coffeehouse located at 412 E. 6th Street. So it was easy for me to design and name a tea with the Spoon, (as it is know by the locals) in mind.

It has been one of the regular places to stop whether with my children on a visit to the library, a chat with friends or for my writing time, and definitely the place to purchase my favorite, freshly roasted, organic and fair trade coffees. Long ago I was told that the Runcible Spoon was the first coffee roaster in the town, maybe the state. I will have to check to see if that is true. It is also the place I joined the line of men and women producing and hosting "The Runcible Spoon Poetry Series", now the "HART Rock Poetry Series" every fourth Friday in Rachael's Cafe (serving I LOVE Me tea). Jeff Danniels was the pioneering founding owner of the "Spoon" now run by Regan and Chef Matt O'Neil. Of course easy going people, wonderful food and having fish in the restrooms bathtub is a draw and pleasure for all of us. And of course Quilter's Comfort Teas!

Players Pub's Bluesy Green was blended while thinking about the excellant blues music I have enjoyed listening and dancing to at the Pub. I wanted to blend a tea that would support and nurture the complex tones I imbibed through my ears and skin curtesy of the Blues bands such as Cliff & The Guardrails, Carlyn Lindsey and the Snake Doctors, Doc Malone, Old Timey Blues of the Lost Shoe String Band, Curtis Cantwell Jackson and Janiece Jaffe, Michael Kelsey, the Blues Jam on Tuesdays, the Dynamics, Blues Street. Beasley. The Pub, located at 424 South Walnut Street serves good food and features great music. The musicians, many of them from around the Bloomington and Brown County areas are wonderful musicians.

For now, the Pub will be the only local place to serve Bluesy Green. They also have it available for take home purchase along with Quilter's Comfort I LOVE Me, Cold Thyme and Patricia's Delicious (Original Blend) teas, and it will be available for purchase in grocery stores locally and a variety of establishments elsewhere.

If you are in Bloomington, Indiana, in addition to the above establishments, you can find Quilter's Comfort teas on the menue at Roots on the Square, Rachael's Cafe and Max's Place. Want to buy some to enjoy at home? Stop in the Bloomingfoods Eastside Store and the Downtown Bloomingfoods (down the alley off Kirkwood) or the Players Pub. You can also purchase teas from my Reiki Peace and Wellness Office open by appointment only.

Quilter's Comfort was invited to design a tea for the Chalice Circles of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Bloomington (Small Group Ministry) using herbs folk historians have associated with such properties as to support deep listening, enhance group interactions, be calming, nurturing, understanding and compassionate. Of course they want it to have great taste. To that end, in May, Quilter's Comfort will release All Ears. After its debut,it will be made available to the community.

Before All Ears makes its community debut, we will release Orange Earl Green in just a few short weeks, and if our taste testers say its go at that time we will also release Green Dove, blended with a mind toward peaceful intentions.

Quilter's Comfort "Bluesy Green" tea at the Players Pub!

This St. Patrick's night "Wear the Green, Enjoy the Blues"at the Players Pub as they introduce their new special tea: Players Pub's Bluesy Green" a Certified Organic herbal tea blended specially for them in Bloomington by Quilters Comfort. Quilter's Comfort blends organic herbs and teas in small batches. Quilter's Comfort's Patricia C. Coleman, tea blender, has been crafting herbal brews since the mid 1970's.

So stop by the Pub wearing your green and enjoy a cup of Bluesy Green tea on the house and of course there will also be some really good Blues music to enjoy.

Quilter's Comfort Available at ROOTS on the Square!

It has been quite a while since my last post. Things in the Quilter's Comfort Tea world have chugged along. Dozens of people have had the pleasure of taste testing QCT and a few of the "summer" test teas served at my oldest daughters wedding this May. The response was very positive. The most common question asked was, "where can we get this tea! They were told of the Bloomington locations where it is available for purchase as a loose tea, and they would have to wait for it to be available in a ready to drink fashion. Another question was, where could they go in Bloomington to get a cup of the tea. The answer was, it is not yet being served in any of the local shops.

That has all changed! Maybe as soon as this week, Quilter's Comfort Original blend will be served at ROOTS on the Square, 124, North Walnut St., Bloomington.
